Alex Kirst, Iggy Pop Drummer, Dies in Hit-and-Run

Tragic news out of the music world this week: Alex Kirst, a drummer best known for his work with Iggy Pop's Trolls, has been killed in a hit-and-run. He was 47.

The musician was struck by a vehicle in Cathedral City, California on January 13. Says Sgt. Paul Herrera: "We have no evidence of any braking. [The driver] made no attempt to stop and fled the scene."

Alex Kirst, a father of two, had simply been headed to buy a pack of cigarettes.

The drummer rose to fame as part of the band The Nymphs. They disbanded in the 1990s and Alex Kirst then started composing music and drumming for Iggy Pop as part of his band, The Trolls.
Police are asking the public for any information they can get on the driver.
